Sustainable Sanitation Practice (SSP) journal

ISSN 2308-5797

With Sustainable Sanitation Practice (SSP) we try to make available high quality information on practical experiences with available sustainable sanitation systems. SSP should fill a gap that we have identified in the last few years in which sustainable sanitation has become an important issue that is discussed among many disciplines. For SSP a sanitation system is sustainable when it is not only economically viable, socially acceptable and technically and institutionally appropriate, but it should also protect the environment and the natural resources. SSP is therefore fully in line with SuSanA, the Sustainable Sanitation Alliance (

From October 2009 until April 2016, the Sustainable Sanitation Practice (SSP) journal was published quarterly. During this period, 26 issues have been produced. Between 2016 and 2018, several more issues have been planned but due to the fact that promised contributions were not submitted, these issues could not been published. Therefore, Issue 27 was published in January 2019!

You might ask yourself: what is now the future of the SSP journal? We intend to publish new issues of the SSP journal but only on demand. That means if you want to organise contributions for an issue of SSP please contact the journal manager at to express your interest. We do hope that we find interested persons that will bring interesting topics to the SSP journal. Additionally, we also invite you to visit SSP and EcoSan Club on facebook ( and, respectively).

With best regards,
